Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi opted for a youthful lineup as his side claimed a 2-0 pre-season victory over A-League champions Auckland FC in New Zealand, insisting he was unwilling to take unnecessary risks with key players.
Dane Scarlett and Richarlison were on target for Spurs, while summer signing Mateus Fernandes, who arrived from West Ham in an £85 million deal, was the only major new recruit to feature.
Big-money midfielder Sandro Tonali, signed from Newcastle United for £100 million, was absent due to what De Zerbi described as "one small problem."
Defenders Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi were also left out.
"It's a chance for the young players," De Zerbi told TVNZ before kick-off.
"After a very long trip, we can't take a risk with the players who are not ready to play yet."
Scarlett gave Tottenham the perfect start by opening the scoring early in the match.
De Zerbi then introduced more experienced players after the hour mark, including Ben Davies, Mathys Tel, Conor Gallagher, Richarlison and Fernandes.
Richarlison wrapped up the victory with Spurs' second goal, capping a comfortable performance in front of a historic crowd at Eden Park.
A record 40,112 spectators attended the fixture, making it the highest-ever attendance for a men's football match in New Zealand.
The crowd surpassed the previous record of 37,034, set during New Zealand's 2017 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Peru.
Tottenham continue their pre-season tour when they face Sydney FC on 29 July.
