Mikel Arteta believes Bruno Guimaraes can help take Arsenal to the "next level" and has suggested the Premier League champions could make further additions before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal officially confirmed the £75m signing of the Brazilian midfielder from Newcastle United on Saturday, with the 28-year-old introduced to supporters at Emirates Stadium before the friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
Guimaraes was not involved in Arsenal's 3-2 defeat by Dortmund but could make his first appearance for the club against Como on Wednesday.
Arteta said he had already been impressed by the midfielder's energy, hunger and determination since arriving in north London.
The Arsenal boss believes Guimaraes possesses the personality and ambition required to push standards higher as the Gunners look to build on their recent success.
His arrival further strengthens an already crowded midfield, with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Martin Zubimendi, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino among Arteta's options.
Arteta also highlighted Guimaraes' versatility, explaining that he can operate in two midfield roles depending on Arsenal's approach and the opposition.
The Spaniard praised the former Newcastle player's ability to regain possession and quickly move the ball forward, while also pointing to his creativity, movement between the lines and threat inside the penalty area.
Guimaraes is Arsenal's latest summer addition following the signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge and the arrival of goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer.
The Gunners had also pursued Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, but the Brazilian opted to remain in Spain by signing a new six-year contract.
Despite missing out on Vinicius, Arteta indicated Arsenal remain active in the market and are prepared to move if a player becomes available who can significantly improve his squad.
Meanwhile, Arteta confirmed Jurrien Timber remains "weeks away" from returning to action.
William Saliba is also facing an extended spell on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from a back injury.
