Much of the attention, however, was focused on Fernandez following a summer of uncertainty over his future.
The Argentina midfielder had been interested in joining Real Madrid before the Spanish giants ended their pursuit, while his representatives also held discussions with Manchester City.

Rogers needed just seven minutes to score on his first Chelsea appearance.
The £117m club-record signing from Aston Villa reacted quickest after Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro saved Joao Pedro's header, converting the rebound to open the scoring.
Rogers immediately looked comfortable alongside Cole Palmer and Pedro in Chelsea's attack, and supporters were chanting his name within the opening 10 minutes.
His influence faded later in the match, which was understandable given he had trained for less than a week after returning from holiday. He was eventually substituted after 62 minutes.
Pedro, meanwhile, continued his outstanding pre-season form.
After Jon Mikel Aramburu's volley brought Sociedad level shortly before half-time, Pedro restored Chelsea's advantage with a header two minutes after the restart.
He then completed the scoring with a composed side-footed finish in the 77th minute.
The Brazilian has now scored eight goals in seven pre-season appearances and once again impressed while leading the attack.
Chelsea struggled for control towards the end of the first half but produced a much stronger display after the interval.
