Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez was booed by his own supporters as speculation over his future continued during his side’s draw with Villarreal in La Liga.
The Argentina international revealed during the World Cup that he wanted to leave Atletico to "fulfil my dream" and has since been linked with potential moves to Arsenal and Barcelona before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Alvarez started the match on the bench and was jeered by sections of the home support while warming up.
The boos grew louder when he was introduced in the 66th minute.
After the final whistle, Alvarez headed straight down the tunnel rather than joining his team-mates on the pitch, prompting another negative reaction from the crowd.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone later suggested the decision had been agreed by the club beforehand.
Marc Pubill opened the scoring for Atletico shortly before the hour mark with an impressive curling finish, but Villarreal responded soon afterwards when Gerard Moreno converted from the penalty spot.
The visitors then moved ahead after Robin le Normand was sent off in the 76th minute for bringing down Georges Mikautadze inside the penalty area.
Mikautadze stepped up and scored the resulting spot-kick.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Atletico found an equaliser with five minutes remaining.
A quick counter-attack ended with Giuliano Simeone sliding home a composed finish to secure a point.
The result leaves Atletico with four points from their opening two La Liga matches, while Villarreal have started their campaign with consecutive draws.
With transfer deadline day approaching, attention is likely to remain firmly on Alvarez and whether the forward will still be an Atletico Madrid player when the window closes.
