Ryan Naderi capitalised on a costly goalkeeping mistake as Rangers secured their third consecutive Scottish Premiership victory with a 1-0 win against Motherwell at Ibrox.
Rangers suffered an early setback when captain Lawrence Shankland was forced off after barely five minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Despite losing their skipper, the hosts were soon handed the breakthrough when Motherwell goalkeeper Alex Paulsen made a costly error while attempting to play out from the back.
Paulsen held on to the ball for too long, allowing Naderi to dispossess him before rolling the ball into an empty net.
Rangers were then presented with a golden opportunity to double their advantage after Tom Sparrow was judged to have fouled Djeidi Gassama inside the penalty area.
However, Kim Min-su failed to capitalise, dragging his spot-kick well wide.
Paulsen responded impressively to his earlier mistake, producing an excellent save to deny Gassama's close-range header.
The Motherwell goalkeeper was called into action again to keep out Kim, before Naderi struck the post from the rebound as Rangers searched for a second.
Substitutes Daisuke Yokota and debutant Kevin Kelsy also passed up promising opportunities during the closing stages, but Naderi's early goal ultimately proved enough to secure all three points.
After a challenging beginning to his time as Rangers manager, Derek McInnes will be encouraged by a third successive league victory.
His squad remains a work in progress following significant changes during the summer, but there are signs that some of the new arrivals are beginning to settle.
Dan Neil was particularly impressive in midfield against Motherwell, providing a composed and creative presence after an inconsistent start to his Rangers career.
Gassama was another constant threat and could easily have found himself on the scoresheet.
However, his tendency to cut back onto his favoured right foot occasionally saw promising attacks break down.
Rangers showed greater attacking intent than during their early-season struggles and took more control after half-time.
Their failure to convert several chances, though, highlighted the need for greater ruthlessness in front of goal.
Shankland's injury will also be a concern for McInnes.
If the striker faces time on the sidelines, Rangers will hope Kelsy can quickly adapt following his debut.
Motherwell showed some encouraging signs during the opening half, with Joseph Hodge playing an important role through his intelligent movement and passing.
Alex Lowry also produced moments of quality as the visitors moved the ball confidently, but too many promising attacks broke down in the final third.
Motherwell's commitment to playing out from defence ultimately proved costly.
Paulsen's mistake gifted Naderi the decisive goal, while Jake Girdwood-Reich was fortunate not to hand Rangers another when an individual error almost presented Yokota with a clear opportunity.
Although Motherwell enjoyed spells of promising possession, they struggled to create enough genuine danger after the break.
In the end, Rangers' greater attacking threat proved decisive as McInnes' side continued their improving form with another valuable three points.
Rangers manager Derek McInnes: "We'd have taken any sort of win because we're up against a good team, in form, but I really enjoyed how many chances we created.
"We kept Motherwell really at arm's length. They're a team who normally get a lot of plaudits for their creativity.
"We we did both sides of the game really well, what we didn't do is just put the game to bed in terms of getting that second goal. It could've been a far bigger scoreline."
Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson: "They were better than us and deserved the three points. If you want to come to Ibrox and get a result, you need to perform at your best and we need to learn from that.
"The main reason for the result today is two things - we have a very, very, very, very good keeper that keeps the scored down today, that's one; the second is that we don't play up to our best today.
"The fact that it's only 1-0, is thanks to Alex Paulsen. It doesn't matter if you're a keeper, centre-back, full-back six, 10 winger or nine, you're going to make mistakes because it's not easy to play in that way always."
