Kelly Gago and Vivian Asseyi scored two composed goals as West Ham secured their first points of the Women’s Super League season with victory over London City Lionesses.
The French forwards caused constant problems for the visitors’ defence, producing similar finishes in either half to put the Hammers in control.
Gago, making her first West Ham start following her summer move from Everton, opened the scoring midway through the first half.
She used her pace to race clear of the defence before rounding goalkeeper Elene Lete and finishing into the empty net.
London City had an excellent opportunity to equalise before the break, but two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas fired over from eight yards.
West Ham doubled their advantage shortly after half-time. Riko Ueki released Asseyi, who calmly converted from just inside the penalty area.
Danielle van de Donk gave London City late hope with an instinctive backheel - her second such goal of the season - but the visitors were unable to complete the comeback.
