Liverpool star catches Zidane's eye!

15 September

Liverpool defender Jérémy Jacquet appears close to earning a call-up to the French national team, following press reports revealing his inclusion in the preliminary squad drawn up by Zinedine Zidane, the head coach of  Les Bleus.

According to sources, Jacquet could receive his first national team call-up soon, having been named in Zidane's initial list of players for the squad's upcoming gathering.

Jacquet has rapidly made a name for himself recently, delivering outstanding defensive performances for Liverpool and demonstrating a remarkable ability to handle the demands of the Premier League, despite being new to the competition.

During Liverpool's match against Fulham—which ended in a goalless draw—Jacquet was a standout performer in the backline; he successfully cleared a ball off the goal line and maintained a strong defensive presence throughout the game.

The young defender displayed great composure and focus during the match, as well as an ability to read the opponent's movements and handle dangerous situations, quickly proving that he is adapting to the nature of English football and its rigorous physical and technical demands.

It seems this impressive form has not gone unnoticed by the French coaching staff, who are looking to broaden their selection pool to include more of the young French talents shining in the Premier League. According to a newspaper report, the new French coaching staff is looking beyond the usual suspects; they are also monitoring several young players who have distinguished themselves at their clubs—a trend that could offer Jacquet a genuine opportunity to join the national team in the near future.

The Liverpool defender is not the only one in the frame; the list of candidates also includes Sunderland midfielder Enzo Le Fée, Brighton defender Olivier Boscagli, and Como player Lucas Da Cunha.

These names reflect a clear shift toward giving opportunities to players delivering strong performances for their clubs, even if they are not yet established figures in the French national team setup.

However, the path to the national team will not necessarily be easy for Jacquet; he is still in the early stages of his tenure at Liverpool and needs to continue developing his game without rushing the process.

Moving to a club of Liverpool's stature and competing in the Premier League presents significant physical and technical challenges, particularly given the congested fixture list and the multiple competitions in which the team participates.

Therefore, it is crucial for Jacquet to maintain his current form and continue his gradual development, aiming to first cement his place in the Liverpool squad before setting his sights on a permanent spot with the French national team.

Nevertheless, the mere inclusion of Jacquet’s name in the preliminary list selected by Zidane serves as significant recognition of the performances he has delivered recently.

Zidane’s initial squad is expected to be announced on Friday; should Jacquet be included, it would mark a major milestone in his career and potentially provide a powerful boost to his continued rise on the international stage.
