Ramos Seals Portugal Comeback Win

Goncalo Ramos struck a late winner as Portugal came from behind to beat Norway 2-1, maintaining their perfect Nations League record under Jorge Jesus.

Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Kristoffer Ajer.

The Brentford defender chested down Martin Odegaard’s cross before firing a superb half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Portugal responded just two minutes later.

Nuno Mendes’ long throw reached Joao Cancelo, who smashed a bouncing ball into the net from a similar distance.

Erling Haaland went close to restoring Norway’s advantage before signalling to the bench that he needed to come off.

The striker was replaced in the 67th minute with a suspected injury.

Ramos then delivered the decisive moment with 11 minutes remaining, turning in Joao Felix’s lay-off from close range.

Portugal had to see out the closing stages with 10 men after Francisco Conceicao received two bookings in quick succession for dissent in the 87th minute.

The hosts were again without Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the camp last week after being dropped.

It was Portugal’s third consecutive match without their record goalscorer, with Jesus saying he intends to discuss the situation after the Norway game.

The defending champions now have four wins from four in Group A4 and sit six points ahead of second-placed Denmark, who beat Wales 1-0.

With two matches remaining, Norway have suffered three successive defeats.
