Belloumi Earns Hull Draw Against Everton

Mohamed Belloumi struck a late equaliser as Hull City drew 2-2 with Everton at the MKM Stadium, maintaining both clubs’ promising starts to the Premier League season.

Joe Gelhardt put Hull ahead in the 43rd minute after Sorba Thomas intercepted a misplaced pass from Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Thomas set up Gelhardt, who guided his finish beyond the advancing Jordan Pickford.

Everton responded less than five minutes later.

Maitland-Niles made amends by delivering a cross for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to head home at the far post.

The visitors moved in front after 68 minutes when Thomas surrendered possession, allowing Dewsbury-Hall to release Thierno Barry for a well-taken finish.

However, Hull rescued a point six minutes later.

Elliot Stroud’s cut-back found Belloumi, who created space before driving his shot past Pickford.

Belloumi Preserves Hull’s Home Record

Having scored for Algeria on Tuesday, Belloumi was fit enough only for a place on the bench, but his contribution proved decisive.

Rather than strike Stroud’s pass first time, he cleverly nudged the ball beyond Dewsbury-Hall before beating Pickford with a powerful effort.

His goal protected Hull’s unbeaten home record, although Everton became the first visitors to score at the MKM Stadium in the league this season.

Victory would have lifted Hull into the top four, but the promoted side still have plenty to be pleased about.

Last season’s Championship play-off winners have collected nine points from six matches, recording two victories and three draws.

Everton Rue Missed Opportunities

Everton also maintained their unbeaten start, avoiding defeat in their opening six league fixtures for the first time since 2013-14, when they finished fifth under Roberto Martinez.

The draw leaves the Toffees fifth, outside the Champions League places only on goal difference.

The visitors edged the contest and created enough chances to leave with more than a point.

Brennan Johnson thought he had scored in the first half after Harrison Armstrong’s effort was cleared off the line, but the Wales forward was offside when converting the loose ball.

Barry also threatened before finding the net. He had a close-range header saved and, with the score at 1-1, failed to connect with a ball across goal from just three yards out.

Despite taking the lead, Everton could not prevent Belloumi’s equaliser and had to settle for a draw in their first match since news emerged that owners The Friedkin Group were exploring a sale of the club.
