He admitted the players' responsibility for the poor results
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has defended his fiery comments against the club's management following the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Controversy is escalating at Manchester United. After the Red Devils' 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Lisandro Martinez caused a stir by publicly criticizing the club's management, particularly sporting director Jason Willcox.
This statement was not well-received within the club, prompting the Argentine player to reiterate his opinion in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram account. In it, the 28-year-old Martinez sought to clarify his remarks, without offering an apology.
"After the match, I spoke in a moment of anger and frustration at not achieving the result we all hoped for," Lisandro said. "My words reflect my feelings and how much I want to see this club compete for the biggest titles."
He explained: "When I say I want more, I'm talking about the ambition we all need to have at this club. These are demands we all have to set for ourselves, starting with me."
The Argentine international also acknowledged the players' responsibility for the poor results, while simultaneously expressing his confidence in his teammates and manager Michael Carrick.
