Eberl reveals updates on the veteran goalkeeper’s condition
Doubts surround the participation of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in next Wednesday’s match against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena—part of the Champions League campaign—following the emergence of fresh concerns regarding his fitness.
The initial plan had been to rest him during yesterday’s match against RB Leipzig, ensuring he would recover in time for the European encounter.
Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, stated following the 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Leipzig this Saturday: "There was some fluid in his foot, which prevented him from participating today. We will see whether the situation allows him to play on Wednesday."
According to German sources, the presence of fluid in the foot may be a reaction to irritation—such as that caused by excessive strain—without necessarily indicating a specific injury.
If Neuer is unable to return to team training by the beginning of the week, Jonas Urbig is expected to step in as Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper once again for the match against Arsenal.
The Bavarian giants are looking to return to winning ways in the European competition, following a 3-3 draw away to Norway’s Viking in the second round of the Champions League.
