Nicolas Jackson Double Ends Manchester City's Perfect Start as African Stars Shine Across Europe

Senegal international Nicolas Jackson delivered a match-winning performance for Aston Villa, scoring twice in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City to end the Premier League leaders' unbeaten start to the season.

The former Chelsea striker continued his impressive form, taking his tally to seven goals in 11 appearances since joining Villa.

The defeat brought Manchester City's seven-match winning streak to an end, although they remain top of the Premier League table on goal difference ahead of defending champions Arsenal.

Elsewhere, African players made their mark across Europe's major leagues, with standout performances in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

ENGLAND

NICOLAS JACKSON (Aston Villa)

Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson was the hero as Aston Villa stunned Manchester City with a 2-1 victory, scoring both goals to hand the league leaders their first defeat of the campaign.

Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute, firing a powerful finish into the roof of the net following a well-timed pass from John McGinn.

Erling Haaland brought City level in the 52nd minute, but Villa responded just eight minutes later.

Teenage Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye provided the decisive assist, setting up Jackson to squeeze his effort past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The brace took Jackson's tally to seven goals in 11 matches since his move from Chelsea, underlining his growing importance to Villa's attack.

DANGO OUATTARA (Brentford)

Burkina Faso winger Dango Ouattara scored his first goal of the season to earn Brentford a 1-1 draw away to Hull City.

The 24-year-old struck in the 63rd minute, calmly converting a pass from Igor Thiago to cancel out Oli McBurnie's first-half penalty.

Although Ouattara's equaliser secured a valuable point, Brentford extended their winless run to three Premier League matches.

SPAIN

INAKI WILLIAMS (Athletic Bilbao)

Ghana international Inaki Williams was among the goals as Athletic Bilbao cruised to an emphatic 4-0 LaLiga victory over Getafe.

After his younger brother Nico Williams, a member of Spain's 2026 World Cup-winning squad, narrowly missed an opportunity to score, Inaki doubled Athletic's advantage with a composed finish.

The experienced forward raced clear following a swift counterattack before beating the Getafe goalkeeper with a precise low shot.

His contribution helped Athletic secure a convincing victory and highlighted the attacking threat posed by the Williams brothers.

ITALY

ANDRE-FRANK ANGUISSA (Napoli)

Cameroon midfielder Andre-Frank Anguissa produced one of the weekend's most spectacular goals during Napoli's entertaining 3-3 Serie A draw with Roma.

The 30-year-old opened the scoring in the 28th minute with an outstanding bicycle kick, sending the ball into the corner after Roma failed to clear a free-kick.

Anguissa's acrobatic effort provided an early highlight in a thrilling six-goal encounter between the Italian rivals.

GERMANY

SERHOU GUIRASSY (Borussia Dortmund)

Guinea international Serhou Guirassy played an influential attacking role as Borussia Dortmund secured a narrow 1-0 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Although the striker failed to find the net, he repeatedly troubled Frankfurt's defence with his movement and aerial presence.

Guirassy had an early opportunity after breaking through on goal, but goalkeeper Noah Atubolu denied his attempted chip.

Shortly after halftime, the forward headed a corner against the crossbar before narrowly missing another chance when his effort from a cross drifted inches wide of the left post.

Despite his lack of goals, Guirassy remained a constant attacking threat throughout Dortmund's victory.

FRANCE

ELYE WAHI AND SOFIANE DIOP (Nice)

Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi and Morocco's Sofiane Diop inspired Nice to a 2-1 comeback victory away to Brest in Ligue 1.

Trailing in the second half, Nice found their equaliser shortly after the hour mark when Wahi converted following a corner.

Diop then completed the turnaround in the 83rd minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake to score the winning goal.

The result provided a welcome boost for mid-table Nice, with both African internationals playing decisive roles in securing all three points.

African Talent Continues to Make an Impact

From Jackson's match-winning brace against Manchester City to Anguissa's spectacular bicycle kick in Italy, African footballers once again delivered memorable performances across Europe's leading competitions.

With important goals from Ouattara, Williams, Wahi and Diop, alongside Guirassy's attacking contribution in Germany, the weekend showcased the influence of African talent at the highest level of European club football.
