Bellingham Scores as Real Madrid Beat Santander

Real Madrid maintained their momentum after last week’s El Clasico triumph with a commanding 3-0 victory at Racing Santander, with Jude Bellingham among the scorers.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after Matteo Prati pulled him down inside the area.

Bellingham doubled the advantage 10 minutes later with an impressive solo effort.

The England midfielder surged forward from halfway, lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and calmly rolled it into the empty net.

Record signing Yan Diomande added a third before the interval, volleying home after Santander failed to fully clear a corner.

Madrid continued to threaten after the break, with Mbappe curling a shot against the post from the edge of the penalty area in the 59th minute.

Santander were briefly handed an opportunity to reduce the deficit when Aurelien Tchouameni was penalised for handball late on.

However, a video assistant referee review overturned the decision after establishing that the ball had deflected off his boot before accidentally striking his hand.

The result extended Madrid’s winning streak to five matches across all competitions and left them three points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, whom they defeated 2-1 in their previous outing.

Jose Mourinho’s side have suffered just two defeats this season, with their most recent loss coming against Atletico Madrid on 20 September.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was handed a rare start and nearly created an early goal when his cut-back found Arda Guler, who curled narrowly wide from inside the box.

The 28-year-old former Liverpool defender has started only five of Madrid’s 14 matches this season, with Denzel Dumfries and Federico Valverde frequently preferred at right-back.
