Newcastle Manager Matthias Jaissle Takes Responsibility After Everton Defeat Intensifies Pressure

Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has accepted responsibility for his team's disappointing 1-0 defeat to Everton, acknowledging supporters' frustration as pressure mounts following another poor Premier League performance.

Newcastle suffered their fourth defeat in five matches across all competitions on Monday, with Everton striker Thierno Barry scoring the decisive goal early in the second half at St James' Park.

The Magpies' frustrations deepened in the closing moments when midfielder Jacob Ramsey received a red card for a reckless challenge on Harrison Armstrong.

Boos echoed around St James' Park at the final whistle as Newcastle supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the team's latest setback.

The defeat leaves Newcastle 13th in the Premier League standings, raising further questions about Jaissle's future.

Jaissle Accepts Responsibility for Newcastle's Poor Form

Speaking after the match, Jaissle acknowledged the supporters' anger and admitted that significant improvements were required.

"After a performance like that I can understand. That's the reality and I am responsible for that," Jaissle said.

"We need to work on the things we need to improve and after today that is a lot."

Newcastle have managed just two victories in their last seven matches across all competitions, increasing speculation surrounding the German manager's position.

The 38-year-old, who previously managed Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli, arrived at Newcastle following Eddie Howe's unexpected departure during the close season.

However, Jaissle has struggled to establish consistency since taking charge, with Newcastle's disappointing results leaving the club well below expectations.

Saturday's Premier League trip to Fulham now represents a crucial opportunity for the Magpies to regain momentum before the international break.

The two-week pause could also provide Newcastle's Saudi owners with an opportunity to assess the club's managerial situation before their next fixture against reigning champions Arsenal.

Everton Defeat Exposes Newcastle's Lack of Confidence

Monday's result marked Newcastle's second defeat to Everton in five days, following their League Cup fourth-round elimination on Merseyside.

Jaissle expressed frustration over the decision to allow Barry's winning goal, arguing that Newcastle defender Fabian Schar had been fouled during the build-up.

"It's almost like a negative spiral. I'm not happy with the referee decision. For me it's a clear foul on Fabian Schar," he said.

Despite questioning the officiating, Jaissle admitted his team had failed to perform at the required level throughout the contest.

"Unfortunately we couldn't deliver actually over the whole 90 minutes. It was not our game and our style of playing."

The Newcastle manager also criticised his side's lack of composure and attacking intent, suggesting their approach in possession contributed to the defeat.

"If you cannot deliver when it counts then you don't deserve to win," he admitted.

"We were not brave enough in possession, too many long balls."

Newcastle Face Crucial Fulham Test Before International Break

Jaissle believes confidence has become a major concern within the Newcastle squad, affecting both younger players and experienced members of the team.

"There are certain moments with not too much confidence not only with the young lads but also with the more experienced ones," he explained.

The German manager stressed that Newcastle must respond collectively rather than allowing their disappointing run to undermine the squad further.

"It's a difficult period. We also know you can only overcome that as a unit. We worked hard and it looked good but unfortunately we couldn't deliver."

With speculation surrounding his future intensifying, Jaissle is determined to identify solutions before Saturday's meeting with Fulham.

"We will analyse in detail and try make things better against Fulham," he concluded.

Newcastle's upcoming fixtures could prove decisive for Jaissle, with the Magpies desperate to reverse their poor form and restore confidence among supporters.
