Frustration grips the Spanish manager
Andoni Iraola, the manager of the Liverpool-based side, criticized his team following a 3-2 away defeat to Fenerbahçe on Wednesday evening, during the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.
In his post-match comments, Iraola stated: "All three goals could have been avoided—perhaps the raucous atmosphere played a part—but they were naive goals. Chaotic goals."
As reported by the British press, he added: "Communication on the pitch was nearly impossible, and it was very difficult for me to relay instructions."
Iraola also expressed his frustration at conceding three goals from set-pieces, noting: "This is something we have been handling very well in the league—we had been doing an excellent job of it, right up until today."
He continued: "We knew this was one of Fenerbahçe’s strengths. We conceded from a free kick, a corner kick, and even from a long throw-in toward the end."
This marks the team's second consecutive defeat, following a 1-0 loss at home to Arsenal. It is also the third straight Champions League match in which the side has conceded three goals.
The defeat to Fenerbahçe is the team's first in this season’s Champions League, leaving them with 9 points and placing them eighth in the standings.
